OUR ORIGIN

Quality commitment since 1909

1909

FOUNDATION OF THE SADDLERY

Born in Pereiro de Aguiar, Antonio Gómez began his career as a saddler in A Coruña, leaving this city in 1909 to settle in the town of Arzúa. There he fell in love, had eight children and set in motion the machinery that would years later become TGM - Toldos Gómez.

1936

DEATH OF ANTONIO GOMEZ

The craftsman Gómez died on May 28, 1936. His widow, Matilde Cea, was then 38 years old and had eight children. Even numbers for a woman who was left alone and immersed in pain. Crying for absences was a luxury for a woman, who projected all her energies into the education and care of her children. So little by little she took charge of her husband's activities, and soon she would be helped by two of her sons: Manuel and Cándido

1960

FIRST STEPS IN THE MANUFACTURE OF AWNINGS

«Guarnicionería Hermanos Gómez» was the name of that embryonic workshop, where the first Galician saddles were made with devotion. In the 60s, there was a crisis in the sector due to the introduction of agricultural machinery and the reduction of work with animals, a situation that forced the brothers to look for other sources of income. Thus, from 1968, they began making awnings and canvas for fairground workers, capes for horse riding and, taking advantage of the sewing machines installed in the saddlery, the mending of cotton canvas

1970

CONSOLIDATION OF TOLDOS GÓMEZ

At the end of the 1970s, the Gómez workshop began working with PVC canvas for the first time. It was also the decade in which they began to manufacture facade awnings. The founder's grandchildren already played an important role in the family business

1977

CONSTRUCTION OF THE FIRST WAREHOUSE IN O RAÍDO

For almost a decade, saddlery and awnings coexisted in the same premises, until 1977, when the first warehouse for the manufacture of canvas was built, from which the awning business operated with a certain degree of autonomy. Antonio, Manuel's son, would remain in charge of the new business

1990

ESTABLISHMENT OF TOLDOS GÓMEZ S.L.

For better management, separating the saddlery and awning businesses, «Toldos Gómez S.L.» was established on September 20, 1990, definitively separating itself from the original saddlery business, which continued and continues its distinct trajectory.

2000

EXPANSION ACROSS THE GEOGRAPHY OF GALICIA

When Toldos Gómez S.L. was established, the company had work centres in Arzúa and Santiago (in the Tambre Industrial Estate, acquired in 1987). In 1999, a work centre was opened in Bergondo and in 2000 in Lalín. In 2013, a new building was opened in the Arzúa business park, measuring 6,879 square metres. In 2021, the Lalín centre was closed, leaving the four work centres it has in Galicia today.

2016
